The old part of
the school was originally a Baptist chapel and dates from 1799. In 1886 it
was converted and extended to become a school by Nottingham architect,
Thomas Chambers Hine. When viewed from Barker gate, the original
chapel building looks rather run down, but if one takes a look at the side
from Plumptre Place it looks almost 'as new' and appears to have been
recently fully restored and upgraded.
