Bromley House, an elegant Georgian property  is home to The Nottingham  Subscription Library.  It was founded in 1816 in Carlton Street by a group of Nottinghamshire professionals, and in 1820 the library spent  £2,750 to buy Bromley House, which had been built in 1752 by the banking Smith family.
