The
original
part
of
the
Jubilee
Campus
is
an
environmentally-friendly
extension
to
The
University
of
Nottingham
and
occupies
a
site
on
the
west
side
of
the
city
roughly
bounded
by
Middleton
Boulevard,
Ilkeston
Road,
Triumph
Road
and
Derby
Road.
At
its
south
west
corner
it
is
but
a
few
hundred
yards
from
the
main
University
Park
Campus.
The
site
was
a
'brown field'
site
formerly
owned
by
Raleigh
Industries
and
used
for
the
manufacture
of
bicycles.
The
campus
was
opened
by
Her
Majesty
The
Queen
on
the
9th
December
1999
and
is
a
fine
example
of
what
can
be
achieved
on
ex-industrial
land.
The
central
complex
is
a
cluster
of
striking
modern
buildings
grouped
along
a
series
of
landscaped
lakes
and
'canals'
where
the
architects
and
designers,
Michael
Hopkins
&
Partners,
have
not
only
delivered
a
functional
seat
of
learning,
but
also,
by
the
extensive
use
of
water
and
parkland,
created
a
unique
haven
for
wildlife
that
can
be
appreciated
by
visitors
and
students
alike.
Swans,
Canada
Geese,
Mallard
and
other
water
foul
can
usually
be
found
on
the
lakes
together
with
a
particularly
friendly
heron
as
the
photographs
below
reveal.
The
lakes
are
also
home
to
some
very
large
fish
that
can
often
be
spotted
near
to
the
shores.
