Nottingham Buildings St. Mary's Church, High Pavement, The Lace Market
|
|||
St. Mary's is the oldest church in Nottingham and has Saxon origins. The church has been extended and modified many times over the centuries and most of the outer shell that is visible today dates from 14th & 15th Centuries. St. Mary's occupies a prominent position on the top of the hill upon which the original ' English' town of Nottingham was established and before the Industrial Revolution when it became boxed in by lace mills and warehouses it would have been a landmark visible from many miles around. It's imposing presence can now only be appreciated from the approach from the south along London Road.
