Montague Burton's Heads Broad Marsh This contemporary blue brick pillar can be found hidden away just outside the east entrance to the Broad Marsh Bus Station. Mounted on it are a series of stone sculptures of the faces of famous figures from history that were taken from the Montague Burton store that once stood on the corner of the old Broad Marsh and Carrington Street before the area was redeveloped. Unfortunately several have been vandalised and it is a shame that they were left in this secluded backwater where such problems might have been anticipated. © Ray Teece 26-04-2008 NM00438 |
