Nottingham
Goose
Fair
is
held
on
The
Forest
Recreation
Ground
during
the
first
week
of
October
each
year.
It
is
purely
a
funfair
and
no
longer
has
any
association
with
geese
or
any
other
livestock.
The
fair
attracts
numerous
small
independent
funfair
operators
to
form
what
is
the
largest
gathering
of
its
kind
in
the
country.
Most
years
see
the
addition
of
new
rides,
but
there
are
those
that
still
come
that
were
there
sixty
years
ago
when
I
was
just
a
small
child.
It
has
far
more
atmosphere
in
the
evening
but
that
doesn't
easily
lend
itself
to
photography,
so
all
these
shots
were
taken
on
Friday
5th
October
which
turned
out
to
be
(For
Goose
Fair),
an
unusually
lovely
sunny
day.
The
fair
is
said
to
date
back
700
years
and
up
until
1928
it
was
held
in
The
Old
Market
Square.
Despite
strong
public
objections
this
location
was
abandoned
by
the
city
council
because
it
was
felt
that
such
a
fair
was
not
in
keeping
with
the
grand
new
council
house.
