This
year
the
City
of
Nottingham
marked
England's
National
Day
with
three
days
of
festivities
and
special
events,
but
the
photographs
below
were
all
taken
on
just
the
final
day
of
celebrations
which
featured
a
parade
led
by
'St.
George'
and
his
squires
from
Nottingham
Castle
down
to
the
Old
Market
Square.
The
parade
was
marshalled
by
three
Grenadier
Guards
and
police
officers
from
the
Nottinghamshire
Constabulary
Mounted
Section
in
their
full
parade
dress
uniforms.
The
parade
included
clowns,
stilt
walkers,
various
scouts
groups,
cubs,
beaver
scouts,
and
the
Police
Pipe
Band,
not
of
course
forgetting
the
Dragon
himself.
Whilst
all
the
preceding
week
had
been
sunny,
the
sun
refused
to
shine
on
the
parade.
The
morning
did
however
escape
with
just
a
few
spots
of
rain
and
it
was
well
attended.
I
very
much
hope
that
this
will
become
an
established
annual
event
that
will
grow
in
size
and
support
in
future
years.
The
role
of
St.
George
was
played
by
Tom
Arris
and
those
of
his
squires
by
Adam
Mant
and
Keith
Ledger.
All
are
from
'The
Knights
of Nottingham' which
was
formerly
known
as
The
Nottingham
Jousting
Association.
St.
George's
trusty
steed
was
'Trooper'.
The
Knights
of
Nottingham
will
be
staging
a
jousting
tournament
at
Nottingham
Castle
on
Sunday
3rd
May
2009.
