Bellar Gate Rest Garden

I have included this in the 'Parks' section but it is so small that it hardly warrants that title.  Situated on the Corner of Bellar Gate and Barker Gate it is as described above just a small rest area. A pleasant area where office workers might escape to for a sandwich at lunchtime during the summer months.  The garden is on the site of an ancient burial ground associated with nearby St Mary's church that was granted to the Parish in 1742.  In the 1830's it was used to accommodate victims of a Cholera epidemic that struck the City.

The archway is the boys entrance to St. Mary's School which was built in 1799 as a Baptist Chapel and converted to a school in 1886 by Nottingham architect T. C. Hine.  There is an ominous 'Developers' notice board near this site - will it survive the race to build yet more flats ?
