Nottingham Castle

The Gate House
(Main entrance to the castle)

This was 'restored' by the Victorians but some of the original stonework is still visible.

It was through this gate that in 1485 King Richard III rode out to do battle on Bosworth Field where he lost his crown and his life, an event that marked the end of The Plantagenet dynasty.

The recently discovered remains of King Richard III
are now interred in
Leicester Cathedral.
