Stanford Street View looking up towards Castle Gate
Now home to Nelson's, a respectable firm of solicitors, in the mid 1960's either the first or second doorway up was the entrance to The Dungeon Club which was the 'in' place for live music at the time. Groups such as The Drifters, The Kinks, Paper Lace, The Small Faces and many other top hit parade groups of the day played here. It was also one of the places where the now serious recreational drug abuse problem was first recognised and was the target for several police raids. It had great atmosphere and from pictures I've seen of the famous Liverpool Cavern Club, it was very similar.
