In the 18th century James Hargreaves, inventor of the spinning jenny, had a factory in this street and the sign on it proclaimed it to be 'The First Cotton Mill in the World'. Pity no trace remains today. |
Apart from the building centre, which I believe used to be a livery stable, there is very little of interest on this street until one reaches the bottom end near Theatre Square. The road to the left is Talbot Street |
