Waterways - The River Trent

This outlet which carries the City Council mark on its arch can be found east of Lady Bay Bridge. If anyone knows what it was / is, please contact me. Maybe it was a sewage outlet in the days when waste was dumped straight into the Trent ? It has a plaque but it was too distant to read.
