3 Colville Villas Off North Sherwood Street This is a very important building - I was born here! I include it in the collection because it is typical of many houses that remain in the city and many more that have already been demolished. It appears to have weathered the last 60 years reasonably well but the properties on the opposite side of the Villas have not been so lucky - they have all been demolished and the footpath narrowed. In the 1940's this was a very pleasant place to live and several large trees then existed along this row of houses. The gardens were well tendered and in common with other families we used to keep half a dozen bantam chickens at the side of the house for their eggs that were then rationed. Continued Next /
