The Nottingham Joint Stock Bank Peveril Street / Alfreton Road This building now stands empty but is one of my favourite little buildings in the city because of its quality and detail. Whilst one of the inscriptions shows the year 1829 (See later photograph), I have a feeling that it is not quite as old as that and that the date may refer to the date the bank was founded. I don't know how long it has stood in this state, but it was a Midland (HSBC) Bank not that long ago and it is to be hoped that it finds a new use before it deteriorates. Whilst there are several quality built banks on Alfreton Road, all are now closed. A sad testimony to the declining fortunes of this area. © Ray Teece 29-10-2008 NB01067 |
