The
Nottingham
Contemporary
was
first
opened
to
the
public
on
Saturday
14th
November
2009.
However,
as
the
weather
on
that
day
was
not
particularly
good,
I
visited
on
Sunday
15th
and
all
the
photographs
below
were
taken
on
that
date.
Unfortunately,
the
High
Pavement
side
of
the
building
where
the
opening
activities
took
place
is
always
in
the
shade,
so
pictures
taken
on
that
side
are
never
as
good
as
they
might
be.
The
gallery
opened
with
exhibitions
of
the
works
of
David
Hockney
and
Frances
Stark
and
attracted
quite
a
reasonable
number
of
visitors
whilst
I
was
present.
As
visitors
queued
to
get
in,
they
were
entertained
by
troops
of
dancers,
two
'zebra's'
and
three
ten
foot
high
'butterflies'
which
were
particularly
effective
and
very
popular
with
the
small
children.
Inside
the
building
are
several
spaces
that
will
be
used
for
exhibitions
and
activities
together
with
a
souvenir
shop
and
a
cafe.
With
the
walls
decorated
in
white,
the
interior
appears
far
larger
than
the
outside
shell
would
suggest
and
there
are
some
particularly
good
lighting
solutions.
Due
to
copyright
issues,
photography
inside
the
David
Hockney
exhibition
is
prohibited,
so
none
are
shown
below.
What
did
I
personally
think
of
Hockey
&
Stark
?
Well
lets
just
say
that
I
prefer
the
old
oil
paintings
on
display
in
the
Nottingham
Castle
Art
Gallery,
and
leave
it
at
that
!
Visit
and
make
your
own
assessment
-
After
all
it
did
cost
£19.39
M
of
mainly
your
money
so
you
should
at
least
take
a
look
at
what
you
got
for
it.
