The Hub This is one of the external brace brackets that have been controversially fitted at each corner of the refurbished building. I don't know, but I would assume that they were made necessary to support the re-glazed roof which is probably in a higher gauge of glass than the original. They do detract from the appearance of the building, but if it is a wall loading problem, then there were probably very few alternative solutions and they are therefore an acceptable evil. Brackets are also fitted to the interior in similar positions - see next photograph. Post Script March 2017: I drove past and noted that these external brackets have now been removed. I don't know if the internal ones are still in place. © Ray Teece 15-04-2014 NB01733 |
