Statue of Feargus O'Connor 1796 to 1855

O'Connor was the founder of The Chartist Movement that fought for the rights and emancipation of the lower class working population, most of whom had no vote and lived in poverty .

His popularity was particularly strong in the Nottingham area where he found thousands of handloom workers eager to support this cause. Hence this statue in our city.

He was formerly an MP for County Cork in Ireland.

The statue was carved by J B Robinson of Derby and is the only one of O'Connor in the country.
