The Prospect Room

Whilst the Prospect Room is amply large enough to have been a ballroom,  this is highly unlikely as the only access to the room from the living accommodation below is via 67 steps up this single narrow stone spiral staircase.  Hardly suitable for a lady in a fine gown, or for carrying food & drinks up.  The fact is that this room was incorporated into the design purely to give height and balance to the external aspect of the building.

The whole building was designed to look fantastic from the outside, which it does, but this was often at the expense of a practical internal room plan.

Note that to maintain symmetry of the room, the entrance from the stairs was covered by an over size door.
